Broken Dreams Frame

This tutorial is entirely my own work and any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental

This is what we will be making.

You will need.

Paint Shop Pro 8 or 9

I.C.Net Software/Filters Unlimited 2

Xero Filter

A graphic (can also be completed with a tube but for the purposes of this tutorial we will be using a graphic)

20-20 Mask or Circle Fade Mask. 20-20 Zip Here

Let's begin.

1.  Open your graphic in PSP and resize so that it is no larger than 350 pixels on it's longest side.

2.  Duplicate twice and close the original

3.  Minimise one copy and with the other copy open in your workspace go to Effects/Image Effects/Seamless Tile at Default.

4.  Adjust/Blur/Gaussian Blur/Radius 25.

5.  From your blurred image choose your foreground and background colours.  They should both be from the same hue but the background should be slightly lighter than the foreground.

6. Duplicate this blurred image and minimise the duplicate for the moment.

7.  Effects/Plugins/Xero/Tekstya with the following settings. If the filter is not showing your chosen foreground and background colours just click the reset button.

8.  Maximise your second copy of the graphic and add your mask.  Delete the mask layer and merge group.

9.  Edit/Copy then Edit/Paste onto your background image. You can now close your masked image

10.  Layers/Merge/Merge all flatten.

11.  Image/Add Borders/ 4 Pixels Symmetric.  Use a bright colour not contained in your image.

12.  Select the border with your magic wand and flood fill with your (lighter) background colour.

13.  Selections/Invert

14.  Effects/3D Effects/Cutout using the following settings.

15.  Selections/Invert

16.  Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel with the following settings.

17.  De-select.

18.  Image/Add Borders/10 Pixels/Symmetric in your darker foreground colour.

19.  Image/Add Borders/20 Pixels/Symmetric in a bright colour not contained in your image.

20.  Select the border with your magic wand.

21.  Flood fill with your darker foreground colour.

22.  Effects/Distortion Effects/Wave using the following settings.  There will be no visible effect from using this but don't worry we just need it to make the next effect work.

23.  Effects/Plugins/Filters Unlimited 2/Tile and Mirror/Mirrored and Scaled.

24.  De-select.

25. Using your Magic Wand (Add (Shift), RGB Value, Tolerance 0) Select the four white segments created by the filter.

26. Maximise your copy of the blurred background and Edit/Copy (close this image) then Edit/Paste/Paste into Selection.

27.  Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow using the following settings.

28.  Effects/Plugins/Xero/Tekstya using the same settings as before.

29.  Effects/Plugins/Xero/Radiance using the following settings:

30.  De-select.

31.  Image/Add Borders/15 Pixels Symmetric in a colour not contained in your image.

32.  Select the border with your Magic Wand.

33.  Edit/Paste/Paste into Selection

34.  Effects/Plugins/Xero/Tekstya using the same settings as before.

35.  Effects/Plugins/Xero/Radiance using the same settings as before.

36.  Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the same settings as before.

37.  Repeat steps 17-30

 

38.  Image/Add Borders/4 Pixels/Symmetric in your (lighter)background colour.

39.  Select the border using your Magic Wand.

40.  Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the same settings as before.

41.  De-select

 

Your frame is now complete. Save as a Jpeg with the compression set at 25.  Leave open in your workspace.

To Create the Sidebar and Background

1.  On your main image make a selection from just inside the outer four pixel border to the edge of the inner four pixel border from top to bottom.  See below:

 

2.  Edit/Copy

3.  Edit/Paste/as new Image. You can now close your main image.

4.  Effects/Plugins/Filters Unlimited 2/Tile and Mirror/Mirror Horizontal

5.  Effects/Plugins/Filters Unlimited 2/Tile and mirror/XY Offset 50% Positive

6.  Effects/Plugins/Filters Unlimited 2/Tile and Mirror/Distortion Mirror (Vertical) with the distortion set to 29

7.  Repeat step 6 adjusting the distortion to anywhere between 19-50.  Choose which you prefer the most.

8.  Image/Canvas Size.  Increase the width of the canvas to 1024 (or whatever your resolution is set to).  Set the height to the height of the image. Place Centre Left.  See Below

9.  Layers/New Raster Layer

10. Flood fill the new layer with your (darker) foreground colour

11.  Effects/Plugins/Xero/Tekstya. Change the settings to those shown below

12.  Effects/Image Effects/Seamless Tile at Default.

13. Layers/Arrange/Send to Bottom.

14.  Highlight your top layer and add a drop shadow using the following settings. Make sure that Shadow on New Layer IS checked:

15.  Working on your Shadow Layer go to Effects/Image Effects/ Seamless Tile using the following settings:-

16.  Layers/Merge/Merge all flatten

17.  Save as a Jpeg with the compression at 25.

When assembling in Letter Creator place the side and background image in the body section and tile and your main framed image in the header section (centred). Remember to adjust the text to about 90 left so that it doesn't go over your side bar.
